What is a gas spring?+
A gas spring is a hydropneumatic component filled with pressurised nitrogen. When the piston rod moves, the gas generates a controlled extension force and provides smooth, defined opening and closing.
How do I calculate the right force?+
The required force depends on flap weight, centre of gravity, pivot point and lever ratios. Send us dimensions and weight — we'll recommend the right spring free of charge.
Are custom builds possible?+
Yes. Custom lengths, individual forces, special end fittings, stainless designs and customer-specific markings are all possible — also in small series.
How long does a gas spring last?+
Used correctly, Stobo gas springs typically reach more than 20,000 load cycles. Actual service life depends on load, temperature and mounting conditions.
Which mounting orientation is correct?+
We generally recommend mounting with the piston rod facing downward so the seal stays permanently in oil. Other orientations are possible and should be agreed on a case-by-case basis.
